“If Hopedale were to name its man of the half century, a leading candidate would be Kleber A. Campbell, M.D. This fall marked the 50th anniversary of his practice in the small industrial town of 3500.”

That’s how a Worcester Telegram article about Dr. Campbell, published in 1950, began. Click on the doctor’s picture to read about him.

Several doctors in Hopedale in the mid-20th century lived and had their office here at 41 Adin Street. One was Dr. Verner Johnson. He was only here for two years, but later in life wrote his autobiography which included many memories from those years. Among much else, he told of a drug problem one doctor had. He also wrote about an offer of $300 to do an abortion. He didn’t name the man who made that offer, but he did give his occupation. He would have been well-known. Another doctor who had an office at that house was Dr. Coniaris. Thanks for reminding me of him, Dick G.

Hmmm, they could last up to 22 years. If they work out that well, I won’t have to replace them until I’m 105.

This maple was only about three feet tall when I dug it up in the woods and planted it on my front lawn. It’s done pretty well since then.
