Virginia “Val” A. Liston, 97, died Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at the NVNA Hospice Home in Hingham. Just two months earlier she lived on her own at Barstow Village in Hanover, an independent senior community, where she leaves behind many dear friends.
Virginia was born April 19, 1925 in Boston to Vincent James Nigro and Rita May Bumstead. Virginia grew up in Malden as an only child. As a teenager she enjoyed her summers on Nutting Lake in Billerica. Virginia graduated from Malden High School.
Virginia married Donald C. Liston on July 3, 1949.They were each other’s lifelong companions and were blessed with five children: David, Paula, Jim, Peter and Phil.
Virginia was an avid reader and prior to Covid, loved playing Bridge, Texas Holdem, and Mahjong at the Hanover and Rockland Senior Centers. She enjoyed playing Pinochle, Canasta, scrabble, and Mexican Train Dominoes with her family. She also loved her Tuesday night Texas Holdem night at Monponsett Inn in Halifax and her Thursday night poker games at Barstow Village. Just recently she was introduced to Wordle and she loved playing it first thing every day.
Virginia is survived by her five children, thirteen Grandchildren and fifteen Great Grandchildren.
Virginia will be especially remembered for her extremely sharp mind and her sincere interest in the people around her. She had a gift of making others feel remembered and special.
Visitation will be held at the Sullivan Funeral Homes, 551 Washington Street, Route 53, Hanover, on Monday, June 20th at 8 AM with a Funeral Mass following at 9 AM at St Mary of the Sacred Heart Church, 392 Hanover Street, Route 139, Hanover. Burial will take place on Tuesday, June 21st at 1:45 PM at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
