Eagle Project
Completed March 10th, 2014

This Eagle Project consisted of placing trail markers in the Hopedale Parklands. A total of 35 marker posts were placed as indicated on the accompanying map. Sign posts provide trail information concerning the trail name, location and direction to proceed to stay on the trail.

In the event that emergency assistance is needed in the Parklands, this information can be used to inform Police and Fire personnel of a person’s location. Knowing their location, the map can then be used to determine the closest vehicle access point. Vehicle turnaround spots are also indicated on the map so that rescue vehicles will know where to go to reverse direction. These areas are large enough for an Ambulance or Rescue Truck to easily turn around.

Vehicle Trail Access

Blue Trail – This trail is accessible by vehicle for its entire length. Vehicles cannot go over the rock bridge. A vehicle turn-around is located at either end of the bridge. Access is possible at the Boat House and from Freedom Street.

Purple Trail – This trail is accessible by vehicle for its entire length. A vehicle turnaround is located at the junction with the Blue Trail.

Yellow Trail – This trail provides access from Dutcher Street to the Blue Trail. A vehicle turn-around is located at the junction with the Blue Trail.

Vehicle Turn-Around spots are marked with this symbol –

The Red Trail is currently not accessible to vehicles. Tree overgrowth will prevent vehicle access past the 0.25 mile marker. A 4-wheel drive truck could access the straight portion of the trail around the 0.75 mile marker. Access for that section of trail would be from the end of Overdale Parkway. The other sections of the trail are primarily footpaths.

The Pink Trail is not accessible by vehicles.

The Green Trail is not accessible by vehicles.

The Brown Trail is not accessible by vehicles.

The Black Trail is not accessible by vehicles.

For those of you who have come to this page because you’re planning a walk in the Parklands, I have some pages that will take you through the area with photos of points of interest. Click to start with this page, which begins on the east side, near Hopedale Street and the bathhouse. Each page has a link at the bottom to the next page, which will continue along the east side, and then go to the west, including the Lookout area and the Saltbox Road area.

Thanks to Don Howes of the Park Commission for passing this material on for this site.
